Miami. (PRC) - On August 8, Luz María Piloto Romero, former director of the Republican Party of Cuba in the municipality of Old Havana, died. Marginalized by the communist tyranny, she dedicated herself to confronting it in search of freedom. She carried out this struggle in the streets. On the PRC's YouTube channel, there are some videos saved of her constant protests demanding respect for Human Rights, freedom for political prisoners, defense of detained comrades in the struggle, commemorating important national holidays, distributing information to the people, putting up protest signs, and much more.
She was arrested countless times and subjected to brutal physical and psychological repression. During one of the beatings, she suffered a miscarriage. Among the things she always recounted was the racist way the Castro regime's SS treated her, constantly taunting her for being Black and defying the communist regime. She responded that she wanted to be free but wasn't, that it had all been a deception, and that she owed them nothing. She kept them in check until the very end, when she went into exile, where she continued working with the organization and fighting even while ill. Her struggle made headlines in numerous opposition media outlets.
Due to the Chinese Virus Pandemic, her ashes were delivered to Magdelivia Hidalgo on August 24th, who supported her throughout her battle against cancer until her death and has handled all the necessary procedures, keeping her family in Cuba informed of the events and, when God allows, will send them her remains.
He leaves behind children, grandchildren, and siblings, all in Cuba. His son, Josiel Guía Pilotos, has been imprisoned in the dungeons of Castro-communism since the death of the tyrant, for not complying with the anachronistic rules imposed during the days of mourning, without the right to extra-penal leave even when ill, and recognized by Amnesty International as a prisoner of conscience.
The PRC membership prays for Luz Maria that God may welcome her into His Holy Bosom and for her family that they may have comfort and strength to face their pain.
We appreciate the solidarity of the organization's members and their commitment to continue fighting, so that one day we can tell Luz Maria, "We are free and the work that remains has been completed."
