Culture
We support all cultural figures who have been forced to choose the path of exile due to the strangling of their freedom of thought by a governing philosophy that does not tolerate any cultural expression that does not align with its ideological line. Men and women of culture, upon arriving in exile, have not received the support and recognition they deserve from those who have lacked the courage to divorce themselves from the leftist fashion deeply rooted in broad sectors of global culture—a trend that often begins during professional training at universities, yet is embraced by people who have never experienced communist regimes firsthand and have only observed them from afar, engaging in a flirtation that serves their own interests and benefits those regimes by helping sell an image of progress and freedom that does not exist.
There is no justification for cultural figures to render such a poor service, for they require total freedom of expression to give form to their imagination without limits in their work, fully aware that totalitarian systems gag freedom of expression and impose a vise on those dedicated to culture from which they cannot escape—otherwise their work will be marginalized. If that work is critical of the regime, they may face prison, exile, or death; there are ample cases around the world that illustrate this reality.
It is time for those dedicated to culture to adopt a truly revolutionary position—but not alongside the left—so that they contribute to the enlightenment of human society rather than to its confusion, under the mistaken belief that communist left-wing governments are the solution to the social problems of the Third World, since the very philosophy of these systems stifles individual development and, consequently, all other spheres of society.
We understand how difficult it is to break with a framework within which one has long worked, but it is even more disheartening to know—as history has clearly shown—that the system does not work, and yet to continue supporting it, stubbornly clinging to an indefensible project, playing the role of useful fools for outdated dictatorships.
We must work for a culture of freedom; we must offer our support to intellectuals, writers, artists, and creators in general who maintain a committed stance in defense of individual rights in the face of any repressive state, and who contribute to preserving the historical memory of the horror of communism so that it is not repeated.
Let us open the doors to that culture of freedom.
We will prevail.
