Havana, Cuba. (PI) - Political prisoner Lázaro Alejandro García Farah, held in the maximum-security prison of Boniato, located in the province of Santiago de Cuba, more than 900 km from the country's capital, where he resides, is currently in the prison hospital, after having begun a hunger strike on March 11 in solidarity with the well-known dissident Guillermo Fariñas, which he finally ended due to his deteriorating health and the pleas of his elderly mother, Gladis Farah Estrada.
García Farah is very thin, his hemoglobin is at 8 points, he has kidney problems and a skin infection due to insect bites that are abundant in Castro's prisons.
Visits to Farah are scheduled monthly, an opportunity his family cannot take advantage of due to the distance, their difficult economic situation, and the poor transportation in Cuba. The prisoner's mother only receives a check for $200, equivalent to 8 CUC, per month. It seems the government is doing this on purpose.
This prisoner is serving a 25-year sentence and, from the prison hospital, began a three-day fast starting on April 1st to continue his support for the most just cause of human beings, the right to FREEDOM. He also issued an alert to the international community about the danger to his life after these 16 years in prison and once again held the Castro brothers' dictatorship responsible for anything that might happen to him.
All of the above was verified after a visit made by his mother to Lázaro upon her return to the capital; she told it to members of the Republican Party of Cuba (PRC), of which Lázaro is a member.
