Regla, Havana, Cuba, Thursday, October 17, 2013. (PI) - On the 8th, members of the Republican Party of Cuba (PRC) met at the Church of Our Lady of Regla to ask the Virgin for the freedom of political prisoners and the cessation of the hypocritical policies of the countries that lend themselves to the regime, against Cubans who flee the jaws of the dictatorship.

Despite the repression carried out against several members of the PRC by the political police officers (DSE), named Luis and Fabio, and the harassment by the paramilitaries of the Rapid Response Brigades (BRR).

At the conclusion of the mass, activists from the Republican Party and a delegation from the November 30th Movement held a short, silent march from the church to the bus stop, covering about 100 meters, until they were intercepted by the aforementioned officers. They were threatened again in the street, as Caridad Carta, Municipal Director of the PRC, stated: “Officer Luis told us that these marches and activities were going to cost us dearly, that from this moment on we were going to know what real repression and jail cells were like.” But we will not stop defending what we believe in: we are free and we want a democratic Cuba.

The repressed members are: Caridad García Carta, Rebeca Toirat Martínez, Ivonne de las Mercedes Lazo Abreu, Yusnaidi Pérez Sosa, Ricardo Jesús Valles Arango and Miguel López Santo.
