Havana, Cuba. (Hablemos Press) - Political prisoner Reinier Mulet Levis was transferred to a punishment cell in Valle Grande prison after organizing a protest on International Human Rights Day.

Prisoners confirmed to Hablemos Press -via telephone- that "Levis was transferred to a punishment cell for preparing a protest" to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

“Reinier Mulet was transferred to punishment cells; reported an inmate, who did not want to give his name, and explained that Mulet “was found under his mattress with several flyers made by him that he had ready to carry out a protest together with several prisoners.

The transfer to a punishment cell was confirmed hours later by Rosana, Levis' girlfriend, who attended the conjugal visit that was scheduled for that day at 2:00 in the afternoon and was denied.

“They told me that the visit had been suspended because Reinier had committed acts of indiscipline within the prison; they assured me that he would be there for several days,” the young woman stated.

Rosana said that another prisoner had also called her on her cell phone on Tuesday afternoon to inform her of what had happened to Levis.

On Monday, Levis told the Hablemos Press newsroom, in a phone conversation from jail, that he would hold a protest on December 10th “because it marks 8 months of our unjust imprisonment and to remind the prison population that it is International Human Rights Day.”

Levis, a member of the Republican Party of Cuba, was arrested along with Miguel Alberto Ulloa Ginar on April 10, 2013. Both are accused of damaging state property by painting signs on shopping center walls, sidewalks, and utility poles, demanding the release of independent journalist Calixto Ramón Martínez, who was in custody.
