Activists and sources close to political prisoner María Cristina Garrido, National Executive Director of the Republican Party of Cuba, have denounced new acts of harassment and mistreatment against her inside the Western Women's Prison, known as El Guatao, located in the municipality of La Lisa, Havana.
According to testimonies received, the inmate identified as Imirsis Caballer, a former resident of Miami, has been used by prison authorities as a tool to pressure and harass Garrido. This woman, a collaborator with State Security, is responsible for provoking her and making her daily life difficult in prison in exchange for meager payments.
Last Tuesday, María Cristina raised her voice in protest. The immediate response from the repressors was to mobilize the prison garrison, take her to the administration office, and file a new disciplinary report against her.
The Republican Party of Cuba urgently calls on the international community to monitor Garrido's situation and condemn the cruel and inhuman treatment that is once again being perpetrated in Cuban prisons against dissidents.
María Cristina Garrido has been subjected to cruel and inhuman treatment, including isolation, beatings, deprivation of food and water, deplorable sanitary conditions, restrictions on family visits and calls in Castro's dungeons.
